oo yall got some hatersss
Lamar was wrong for asking that wack ass question about a "regular college" how about you get a "regular job". That's why your ass ain't one of the main cast members on the show. Black people like you sicken me. You need to be put on blast for that ignorant mess!
Keep doing your thing! Ignore the hate... it is pointless.
It was a basic question why take it out of context. Obviously lamar has a job because you're watching him on TV! And if you are so sicken by people with regular questions you are wack!!! hahaha...ignorant really..obviously you were on the little yellow school bus
Thanks for the feedback everyone with enjoy all the opinions keep them coming!!!
You guys are funny. I didnt say Real like HBCUs or Ivy League is not. I was asking why do you choose to go to any college u choose. Im not the editor. Ivy League, HBCU, Syracuse, i dont mind. taken out of context. Any by the way, I do have a job. U just watched me. lol. Keep it coming guys. positive and negative
The comment made by Lamar about a "regular" college may have been edited or may not have been, but at any rate, it's a question people in black America get asked every single day. I attended Morehouse, and actually had one class with Christian, and then transferred to Penn State, and it's a common question. "Why didn't you go to a regular college?," or "Why did you go to a black college?" It's normal, especially in that NYC circle world. For me, I didn't even see a problem with it, and that could be because I'm apart of this community where it doesn't phase me, but it's not a big deal. On another note, Ally and Lamar need a spin off. I'd be more interested in that!!
Brooke look like Keri Hilson.
I just read an article this past weekend where the producer of this show was saying he was trying to stay away from falling into the "reality show drama". Well Mr. producer you failed. Your falling back into the basic old Shakespeare script with protagnist and antagonist. Currently your trying to make Ms. Ally Love and Lamar James your antagonist, which is such a bad idea. Anybody who knows the real Ally and Lamar knows they are educated and well spoken yet you depict them as the opposite. Honestly this show is corny and definitely a fake Hills from MTV, it is very hard to watch with the girls sounding very manish and the guys acting like sensitive females i.e. Christian. I mean really? Is he that sensitive? really? Come on he should of went to Spelman. The worst part is how he ran back to his boys and lied trying to get more people to feel sorry him. 'regular' and 'real' are two totally diferent words and meanings. Basically the show is garbage. The only reason why I somewhat pay attention to the show is to see if any real sense is brought to the show from Ally and Lamar. I agree with Lamar Lee they definitly need their own spinoff. Producer step your game up.....
Please
Anyways, the Briana girl is wack. According to my friend and his boy, she's known for having a stank attitude when she's out and about. Thinks she's better than most people. About the girl Kelly, the friend, poor thing got stabbed some time last year, I believe, when leaving her Harlem apt. Also, Providence the night club is located in midtown, nowhere near Adam Clayton Powell. Oh, and where did anyone bounce up with Jason? He's a good character, but it's highly unlikely that he just happened to know anyone on that cast prior to the show starting.
Cidy, that is bad ass. very strong words. Not only did u voice your oppinion but you did it in a very reasonable way. I can respect that.
As an alumnus of an HBCU, I was taken aback when I heard "the question". I can look at the situation with a crooked eye and kinda see how the question can be misinterpreted. But being born and raised in NYC, and moving back here after college, I can't really agree with Lamar Lee's comment about how the phrasing of the question may be normal in NYC. I've heard of people refer to schools as HBCU's and PWI's (predominantly white institutions), but I've never heard any distinguish the difference as "regular" and something else.
A friend of mine went to Barnard College. I think she would tell you that it's not a "regular" college. It's a women's college, making it different from other schools. People use the word regular to mean ordinary. When I ask for my coffee regular I'm not implying that there's something peculiar about hazelnut. It does not have to mean normal or abnormal. There is something distinctive about a military college, a college for women, or a historically black university. Would it be out of line to ask someone why they went to West Point?
There's an inferred/interpreted difference between saying "why did you go to West Point" versus "why didn't you got to a regular school". What makes a school "regular"? Clearly Morehouse College isn't a typical college because it's all male, an HBCU, and offers only baccalaureate degrees. But other "regular" schools are different because they have exceptional academic ratings, or superior sports teams, or are deemed ivy league institutions.
An underlying issue with the conversation is one that is at the basis of every piece of communication: intent versus interpretation. Lamar may have intended to ask "why didn't you attend a typical state-supported school", but the interpretation appeared (to me) to have been "why'd you go there instead of a school most people would go to".
I also think the situation got blown out of proportion later on in the show when Lamar was misquoted as asking him why he didn't go to a "real school". I think much of the hype was based on the word "real", which wasn't the word he used (or wasn't the word he used in the edited/aired version). I also think the guy (I'm not familiar with the cast's names) should've merely told Lamar why he chose Morehouse over other schools. Maybe he would've given Lamar and Ally a little more insight into the school and the HBCU experience.
The word regular is open to interpretation, but I do think that most American colleges and universities are fairly similar in the sense that they have sports and classes. The schools have different reputations for these things, I know. Some schools have a religious affiliation. Whether that is "regular" is, of course, up for interpretation. But I stand by the fact that a person considering Smith or Barnard can't miss the fact that there won't be any men in her classes. Those two schools differ from many American schools in a way that impacts everyone who goes. A good football team may not have any effect on someone who spends most of his time in a lab. I agree that the man should have told him why he chose Morehouse. I don't know his name either, but he missed an opportunity to talk about himself and his school. He was on television. He could have given information to prospective students.
Lamar, why did you ask Christian “the question” in the first place? Did you truly have an interest as to why he chose to matriculate an HBC or were you just trying to get to him. It was clear that he had some animosity toward you. Pretty much everything you said to him, he gave you a somewhat abrasive response. Personally, I know when someone's acting a little grimy with me, I get grimy back. On the flip side… It is a common question amongst educated black folks. Didn’t the guy in that movie “This Christmas” have to define himself after being asked the same question by his girlfriends’ brother in law? Christian could have answered as proud and eloquently as that brother did. Own it!
I've known Ally since elementary school and u are totally u on camera! 1.U were right the vibe was off from jump! 2.No matter how Lamar asked the ?, christian was gonna be offended. He don't like the boy! 3.Clearly, to provide drama or not, these people are not yo friends! 4.Brooke, I c y Kanye moved on, both parties in the relationship can't be arrogant! I give it to him he's the celebrity and she trying to make it! 5.Briana, honey I wish I could see you face to face, I would whoop yo ass. Trying to be something you're not! Get over it u not real, ur FAKE! Drama queen should be your passion. U like Diddy will never receive any of my business. 6.I only watch HH, because of Ally. 7.Bridget, honey Kelli is clearly not the problem, you are. Trying too hard to keep the drama rolling, don't worry u will get picked up for a second season. 8.Ashlie take responsibiltiy, and see the bigger picture: Ally can't be trusted because she defended her man? No surprise you are single! 9. Pierre you just don't have a clue! 10.Keep up the good work Ally. Be true to yourself and your man. Drama, for the show or not, is not always a good thing!
BET should stick to Balwin Hills, these teens, young adults, are more entertaining than watching Harlem Heights. The show seems to bt the script, and so unreal! Not my flavor! I use my dvr, so I can hurry past the fake drama. I try to support shows but I can't take much more of this. I prefer to watch the good girls Vanessa and Angela's Daddy's Girls. Put it this way, no Ally. I don't watch.
yess thanks michelle that was great to hear! All of the comments keep them coming and keep them honest!
Your questions definatly sparked up a lot of conversation. My question to you is this....If Morehouse isnt considered a regular or normal college based on that fack that its a school of black men being educated, would you consider the show that you are on not a normal or a regular show since its a full of young black people?????????????????
If Morehouse isn't regular, it's because it's distinctive. Again, the Air Force Academy is not regular either. There is something about it that distinguishes it from many other schools. Both provide an excellent education, no one is disputing that. No one ever used the word normal. It's important not to misquote other people. Normal and regular have different connotations.
real talk, the question was a dumb one but once he "explained" himself I understood completely what homeboy was trying to say... people are to petty, folks ask dumb ass questions on the daily so why is it a shock! Bald headed dude from the jump had a gay boy attitude when he heard about the double date, bitching like a little drag queen, if he wasn't feelin (lamar) like that, then he should have agreed to go, plain & simple!
My next point is this, the show is wack (not saying you guys is wack) but the main characters don't rep Harlem properly except street dude, the girls is corn balls trying to come up & be divas, I see them @ events/parties a lot, the spot they hit up in Harlem always look empty, & they talk to much shit about everybody (TRU HATERS ALL AROOUND), if I was featured in the show by name & they was talking ish about me, after the episode I would go see them with a couple of my folks from the block & knock my name out they mouth!
BET need to do better when they pick there shows cause this one ain't catching a season 2, it should have never came out...
Plain and simple...
People go to HBCU's for the same reason this show was created. Anything "all black" can be just as GREAT as anything "all white." Please understand that white people go to HBCU's as well because they are great higher learning institutions.(Even though they probably get some sort of scholarship- Yes!!! Affirmative action works in both ways!!! :-D) Though the question was not worded in the most intellectual way and may have been taken out of context, it is quite normal. That doesn't necessarily mean that it should be.
Why isn't your show on a regular channel why don't you have a regular cast? Are black people not regular/normal? HBCU's, BET, etc... are proof that we are.
Since this episode was post-President Obama I would think that one would have their own in site on why to attend a black university. It's almost, but not quite, like saying why is a black man president or why should one be.
Having said that...
On the relationship thing... They did ask for your advice... People shouldn't hate on black love!!! LOL...
You know I had to comment on this one...
Do ur thing Ms. Love!!! Be real though stop actin all cute we know you from MIA-YO!!! It started to come out when you were talkin to Ashlee... LOL... You got that Fyah
LOVE YOU GIRL
Charity!!!
Hello Ally, I just love your natural hair. It feels good to see women with their natural hair out in the social scene. Rock that 'fro girl. Also, I am currently transitioning myself. Could you tell me what products you use and your hair regime? BTW,the show is okay. Just alot of fakeness and unnecessary drama. I wouldn't be suprised if this is the only season. But, much success to you and your boo.
I think Christian was just acting like a diva and just being catty. He took the entire statement out of context. Everyone knew what he meant when he made the statement. He wasn't trying to slight Christian, Morehouse or any other HBCU. He just meant that why did he elect a black college as opposed to a majority institution where it better represents racially a composite of the real world.
Christian already said prior to the date that Lamar wasnt his kind of homie to hang out with. I believe he came to the date defensive already and was reaching...
